Muslims Condemn Attacks on Coptic Christians

(Hamilton, January 9, 2011) – The Muslim Association of Hamilton (MAH) join the countless people worldwide in condemning the bombings in Alexandria on New Year’s eve. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims of this odious event.

We demand that the authorities in Egypt investigate and prosecute those responsible to the highest degree.

“These actions are the actions of those who hate and these actions cannot be justified in any way. The perpetrators have no regard for humanity.” Said Dr. Tahir Ghouse, President of the Mountain Mosque. “Our hope is that we all take this opportunity to build bridges and strengthen our ties and to stand united against terrorist actions.”, he added.

At the Friday prayers held at the Mountain Mosque at 1545 Stone Church Road East in Hamilton Ontario on January 7th were dedicated to condemning these acts. Visiting Imam, Zijad Delic, reminded the attending Muslim of the severity of such an act. “This is an act of terrorism. The position in Islam, as stated in the Quran, is that if you kill one innocent person, it is as if you have killed all of humanity. These were all innocent people. We must stand up against such actions.” The prayers were dedicated to the families of the victims, and for a more tolerant and understanding world community.

The MAH encourages Muslims in Hamilton to reach out to their Coptic Christian brothers and sisters and send a word of support. We are prepared to assist in any way possible.

The MAH continues to condemn any, and all acts of terror. The MAH implores all communities worldwide to come together and condemn these acts, and strengthen their ties with one another.
